Please join us for a six-week seminar for learning more about how to become self-empowered in relationships. You will be led through an experiential, body-centered exploration of what it takes to become sturdily balanced and emotionally grounded within. We will practice techniques that serve to shed the compulsive need to apologize or explain to anyone who we are and what we want or don't want. In a safe, nurturing environment, we will build community aimed at developing our fullest potential for authentic relating.
Where: Various groups are held downtown Chicago, in Oakbrook, and in Naperville.
The next group begins in Oakbrook: 210 W 22nd St., Suite 118, Oakbrook, IL 60521
When: Please call or email to ask about our next starting date. Generally our groups operate either Sunday mornings from 10:00 am to noon, or Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Participants are invited to enjoy refreshments and mingle informally after each group session.
How: Facilitators Danute Kuncas, MA, LCPC, and Sarah Katula, PhD, APN, will guide a group of women (up to 12) through a six-week series of evening workshops in which you will become crystal clear about:
The critical factors that contribute to unequal relationships or unbalanced personal exchanges.
The typical emotional history of women who struggle with assertiveness.
The tragic consequences and vitality-draining impact of self-abandonment.
Recognizing, in the moment, the visceral symptoms you personally experience that indicate a loss of power or energy drain.
The specific strategies to immediately restore balance and stop energy leaks.
How to deal with self-doubt and fear of repercussions.
The way to re-program old patterns, false beliefs, and unconscious reactivities within yourself.
How to increase your own capacity to withstand pressure without losing your power under emotionally stressful circumstances.
What it means to have personal power and how to strengthen your presence.
How to manage bullying or forceful people, and stand your ground.
How to respond to emotional aggression.
How to foster dignity, respect, and self-empowerment in all of your relationships, including your children, your spouse, your relatives, business associates, and strangers with whom you have business.
Some of the techniques we will be using:
Somatic self-awareness practices and anxiety management strategies.
Sensitivity training through amusing somatic experiencing techniques.
The RISE formula for managing aggression.
Boundaries awareness training.
Studying the victim-abuser archetype through fairy-tales and dream symbols.
Familiarization with the techniques used by emotional bullies, in order to clearly understand their aims and know how to foil their destructive behavior.
At the end of eight weeks, you will be able to measure the results of your own progress in the areas studies by:
Recognizing instances of your enhanced capacity to bear interpersonal tension without self-abandoning.
Understanding how to protect your interests in a respectful self-supportive manner.
Being able to work with your dreams and your intuition for guiding your own development and your life's goals.
Discerning clearly between your normal, competent adult self, and your fearful, self-doubting traumatized inner child.
Knowing the exact steps out of self-doubt in a stressful situation.
Knowing the precise steps for managing an emotionally aggressive confrontation.
